DMSO
Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) is a sulfur-containing, water-soluble compound naturally produced as part of the sulfur cycle in the ocean. In the Earth’s atmosphere, dimethyl sulfide (DMS) is converted into DMSO through exposure to ultraviolet radiation and ozone.
DMSO is notable for its ability to interact with hydrogen bonds, which may influence how molecules like oxygen and hydrogen peroxide behave in the body. In 1963, Dr. Stanley W. Jacob, a physician and researcher, explored the properties of DMSO, highlighting its function as a free radical scavenger and its potential to modulate inflammation. Further studies have investigated DMSO’s ability to regulate the inflammatory cascade at a molecular level.
Health Canada Compliance Notice
While DMSO has been widely studied and consumed, Health Canada prohibits unsubstantiated claims regarding its use for specific medical purposes. Individuals are encouraged to consult our naturopathic doctor to determine its suitability for their health needs.
