Heavy Metal and Toxin Exposure

The Nardella Clinic’s Naturopathic Doctors have many years diagnosing illnesses that are the result of environmental exposures to heavy metals and toxic chemicals.  Our clinic Naturopaths are members of the Naturopathic Academy of Environmental Medicine.

Naturopathic Doctors have well-established that various environmental exposures to heavy metals or toxic chemicals can cause an extensive list of health issues. Not only do these toxins directly cause damage to various tissues and organs in our body, they can also cause an immune response that can cause or contribute to autoimmune responses in the body.

This autoimmune response is associated with many chronic conditions including:

  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
  • Lupus
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Cancer
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Dementia

Symptoms of toxicity may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • High blood pressure
  • Numbness/tingling
  • Nausea and loss of appetite
  • Insomnia
  • Muscle pain and weakness
  • Skin rashes

Even longer than the list of symptoms is the list of potential toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis.  A study done by the Environmental Working Group found more than 200 chemicals in samples of umbilical cord blood. Early exposure in utero is compounded by air pollution, workplace exposures and even daily chemicals used in our own homes such as cleaning supplies and cosmetic products. Naturopathic medicine historically has placed emphasis on minimizing exposure to toxins and supporting the body to detoxify.

Some of the more common toxins humans are exposed to are:

  • Mercury
  • Lead
  • BPA
  • Cadmium
  • Organophosphates
  • Phthalates
  • Benzenes

Our naturopathic doctors are trained in testing and treating heavy metal and toxin exposures. In addition to directly removing the toxins, other naturopathic treatments are used to support detoxification and protect organs.
