Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is considered a “diagnosis of exclusion” in the medical community. This means that if no standard testing or imaging detects any abnormalities, patients are often diagnosed with IBS. Generally speaking, infectious disease is ruled out by this point, and there tends to be a connection to stress, food sensitivities, dysbiosis and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).
Common symptoms of IBS include:
- Diarrhea alternating with constipation (or a predominance either one)
- Bloating
- Gas
- Abdominal discomfort
Testing for potential underlying causes such as food sensitivities, stool and SIBO testing is important to determine an appropriate treatment plan. Treatment plans at the Nardella Clinic in Calgary may include:
- Dietary changes
- Regulating Stress through Acupuncture, Supplementation and Psychological Services
- Individualized supplementation to reduce inflammation, optimize gut flora and the immune system
