Brain Cancer
Brain Cancer is becoming more common in the elderly and children. Central Nervous System (CNS) tumors can develop vasculature without the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB), which allows toxins and proteins to cause swelling/edema. High Grade Lesions will spread within the brain. Gliomas tend to be invasive in tumor potential. Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF) I and II are chemo-attractants for metastases. A high-sugar and carbohydrate diet will increase IGF and help cells spread via blood vessels. The 5-year survival rate for brain cancer is 32%.
Types of brain tumors:
- Glioblastomas
- Astrocytomas
- Gliomas
- Meningiomas
Risk Factors for brain cancer include but are not limited to: ionizing radiation exposure, immunosuppression and chlorine water, which promote formation of trihalomethanes. Astrocytomas are common with prior pesticide ingestion (in utero exposure is the worst).
Screening and investigation for brain cancer usually begins with onset of symptoms.
